As we make our way to our first stop, our screen will play a travel documentary presenting an unconventional introspective look into Greece and its culture. Get a deeper look into the Greek culture and mentality. First stop – the archaeological site of Mycenae, majestic military stronghold of the Mycenaean civilization which dominated the region from 1600 to 1000 B.C.E. #pleaforhelen The mythological drama that unfolded here was intense- When King Agamemnon sacrifice his daughter’s life to goddess Artemis, in order to assist his brother Menelaus to lead the greek army on the Trojan war,to return Eleni, Menelaus’s wife that was abducted by the trojan prince Paris. But it doesn’t end there. The twisted plots of Mycenae’s royal family find themselves tangled up, in easily bring to mind our modern soap operas! You will be provided with complimentary technology which will not only take you through the archaeological site, but also through its tumultuous history. Departing from Mycenae, we continue on to the birth of the Greek state and its first capital, Nafplion. Influenced by multiple cultures across centuries of occupations, there is much to explore here. Stroll the town’s cobble-strewn streets influenced by truly artisanal spirits. Visit Palamidi Castle upon the top of a 216-metre high hill, enjoying breathtaking views of the gulf, or take pictures on the quick boat ride to Bourtzi Castle, located in the middle of the harbour. Numerous churches can be found in the old town, adorned with fascinating Byzantine art. Finally, cool off with a buffalo milk ice cream at one of the cafes in Syntagma Square in Nafplion! Meeting back up at the end of our wanderings, we hop back on the bus for Athens, closing out the day’s adventure with relaxing sounds of contemporary chill music.
